Well, gosh! What a journey I’ve had … !
Picture the scene … I was quietly sipping my sake one Thursday in the Song Bar and wondering what the new topic would be. Suddenly all the patrons started screaming. They ran out of the bar, along the street, howling at the top of their voices! I thought I could hear Judas Priest, The Jesus Lizard and Flower Travellin’ Band playing in the distance. I leapt up and ran after these fast-disappearing drinkers, and, as I chased them, I hoped they would not cause trouble and upset the neighbours.
Like everyone I understand the need to really let out a scream and release the pent up aggression, frustration and anger. So I hoped my fellow patrons would soon be back to normal. Gradually I was reassured as I began to hear anger changing into something more mellow, and just as turned the corner and saw them still some way away. Just as they had slowed down a little and I was catching up, I could hear Soundgarden and Johnny Jones & The King Casuals. Now I could tell the mood was changing.
So I ran onwards, and was getting closer, but then they turned another corner, and then another. It was tough to keep up with all their songs! Then after many twists and turns, suddenly we were all back at the Song Bar and party seemed to be in full swing! Sly and the Family Stone, Ms Betty Davis, Charles Wright and Sam Cooke were providing the music and all the patrons were howling, grunting and danced to funk and soul!
Of course as more and more sake was drunk, conversations became more emotional. The intensity then built, and I could over hear 3rd Line Butterfly, Max Roach and John Lennon joining in! As with every crazy night there were one or two tears as exhaustion and feelings came to the surface. That's what music does. But what a night!
What an exciting and fun party in The Song Bar! I hope you enjoy it in these playlists !
