No lyrics. No explanation. Just some visual inspiration …
Instrumentals certainly come in many forms – slow, fast, dramatic, cinematic, ambient, incidental, or sometimes just album fillers, and as a general topic it’s come up in the distant past, but this week it’s all about those designed specifically for dance, whether formal, spontaneous, or to fill that dancefloor. As no lyrics are involved, it felt right to offer very few words to this week’s introduction, leaving almost everything entirely to sights, sounds and actions. As Herb Albert put it: “Instrumental music can spread the international language.”
So – from afrobeat to acid house, and anything in history all the way to zaouli, Zwiefacher, zydeco and zouk-lambada, the floor is all yours. If there are no words, and the music is all about dancing, then go for it.
Tapping toes and no doubt flexing every limb alongside his marvellous mental musical judgement, I’m delighted to welcome back to the stage, our very own dance maestro magicman! Place your dance instrumental music in comments below for deadline on Monday 11pm UK, for what will no doubt very playlists of exceptional movement, published next week.
Which just leaves me to wish all our wonderful Song Bar visitors and guest writers a fantastic Christmas, and to thank you for al your various contributions – musical, anecdotal, financial, and of course always warm and sociable – at our special establishment. It’s been a very challenging year of course, but I hope this topic will help dance away some personal, and worldly troubles.
The very best of health and happiness to you all.
Your friendly host and Landlord.
