By Violet Vivid
“It’s not me, it’s you!” she said, completely out of the blue.
I mean we’d had our problems, all relationships made of such opposites. But then were it not for a strange quirk of geography we’d probably have never met.
As it was the History of our families that was tremulous at best, downright violent if you went back far enough! But even before we got together there’d been decades of peace between us, following the last bloody clash.
Which made her words Hit Me Where it Hurt even more. We’d been soo good together! We’d grown, we’d flourished, everything was pretty good. OK so yeah, it wasn’t brilliant. We’d both had our rows, they’d been Mistakes on all fronts if we were honest.
After standing looking perplexed for a moment I had to ask her: “What do you mean?”
“That’s It! We’re through! This is over!” she screamed, almost frenzied.
Naturally I took a step back. The fervent rage, the proud posturing coming from her struck me Stupid.
So we talked, or tried to. Nothing she was saying made sense, not with any logic, not when you checked all Numbers, and definitely not when you listened to the Warnings from almost all the experts.
“I’ve had enough of experts!!” had been her reply on that, which made as much sense as a lesbian drooling over Lord Hereford's Knob!!
So there was nothing I could do to make her see sense, the years we’d been together, the good times, they meant nothing anymore. Despite everything she’d been told had been either proved Wrong, or confessed to be outright lies, she was going ahead with it, full steam ahead and be damned if it was a Great British Mistake. I lost track of how much I tried, she still stormed out, writing it in a letter of all things!
In my reply I wanted to ask What Were You Thinking, don’t you have any Guilt, and most of all You Should Never Have Opened That Door. But I chose not to, I chose to Just politely comment on how this was the Beginning of Sorrow, and to let her go try find the tragic Paradise (by the dashboard light) that was clearly a product of her Western Dreams.
And did the only thing I could do, as a wildcard, was to start the fight for My Country.
