I never thought I would learn so much this week ! Amongst other things we had philosophy, cuisine, proverbs, zoology and lots of humour. I really did not know where to start.
The question of which came first – the chicken or the egg – has perplexed us all since the earliest times and Aristotle decided it was an infinite sequence with no real origin, but quite a few of the tracks nominated look at the question from either end.
Little Jackie examine the problem slightly differently in The World Should Revolve Around Me.
Mr Bungle in Egg, seems to be stuck on this question, as he keeps repeating it!
Hot Lips Page in The Egg Or The Hen goes to the hen house to ask an expert but cannot find an answer.
Humpty Dumpty is often used to illustrate a thing or person that once over thrown can not be reconstructed and Aimee Mann captures this beautifully.
Leaving the philosophy for a while, not surprisingly there were lots of songs about eggs as food.
Dean Martin & Helen O'Connell ask How D'Ya Like Your Eggs In The Morning in a romantic and beautiful duet.
England’s gift to the world of cooking is undoubtedly the English Breakfast and Madness celebrate this in Don't Quote Me On That.
Jan Brady uses Green Eggs as self-affirmation in the track by the band Lunachicks. I check the the recipe and looks great – scrambled eggs and creamy spinach sauce!
Of course everyone needs to vary their diet as too much of good thing can be very bad for you as Macka B points out in Baked Beans and Eggs.
There were a few egg-related proverbs also this week.
The fantastic Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong were happy to make a commitment in Putting All My Eggs in One Basket.
The Ground Floor People were taking care when Walking on Eggs
While most of the nominations were related to hens’ eggs we did have some other animals.
I was really pleased we managed to have the platypus represented. Jill Sobule tells the tale of platypus in a difficult situation in Talkin' Platy.
We finish up the A-list this week with the wonderful Out of the Serpents Egg by Dead Can Dance.
I hope you enjoy the lists ! ! !
