Some grande dame from the world of fashion, probably Diana Vreeland, who had the soles of her shoes polished as well as the uppers, decreed that when you are planning an outfit, you should always start with the shoes. If you get the shoes right, the rest will follow. So starting with the shoes, I hope this also makes for a great playlist.
Judy Collins with her Thirsty Boots begins. Like the Red Shoes, her boots keep her moving but unlike the red shoes she can take them off and rest awhile by the fire. Those boots will soon be thirsty again though.
Next The Fiery Furnaces carry a Candymaker's Knife in their handbag. This song has lyrics like a nightmare but it sounds lovely.
Symarip want you in your boots and braces to do the Skinhead Moonstomp. Irresistible dance music even had me dancing round the kitchen before breakfast.
Next a calypso from Duke of Iron and The Lost Watch. More early morning dancing but I'm not at all sure it's really about a watch.
A watch isn't really jewellery but nor are Harry Beckett's Bracelets of Sound. You can get your breath back to this mellow piece of jazz.
Laura Marling says Goodbye England and goodbye to a man who is wearing her softest red scarf with his jacket and coat but she has a mind under her hat so she's leaving. This is such a beautiful song and she is such a beautiful singer.
Lightening the mood, the B52’s sing about a Wig. It doesn't make a lot of sense but it's fun.
Procol Harum (named after someone's cat apparently) sing about the necessity of taking off your Homburg when your shoes are laced up wrong and your overcoat is too long. No, it doesn't make sense to me either but that organ sound is to to die for.
Alexander 'Skip' Spence was one of the saddest acid casualties of the sixties. His advice is to Keep Everything Under Your Hat. It's soft and trippy.
You can't go out without your shades and Black Country, New Road have your Sunglasses ready for you. This was my find of the week and full of the weirdness I love. I disapprove of the ice in the whisky though.
So many more I'd love to list but I think we probably have enough accessories for one outfit now.
