David Bowie – Stay – Glittery, jittery coked out LA disco funk it may be, but with a big sweet and vulnerable heart. This song was pre- coke detox and many years pre-Iman, but I do recall an interview where he said it was real teenage stuff for him when they started dating - Do you really think she likes me? Do I have a chance with her? I choose to believe that it wasn't just the blow that made him unable to get his shit together. I love you, David.
Sly and the Family Stone – If You Want Me to Stay – This was on the list even before the topic was posted. And here it remains in perpetuity.
Hemsley Morris – Stay Loose – Jewel of a reggae tune. Staying Loose apparently means that you're free to leave. Nice little trick.
The Pastels – The Viaduct (Ian Carmichael remix) – Are we going to get out of this town or are we going to stay. And are we going to do it together.
Suede – Wild Ones – The plane leaves today, but oh if you stay … Don't know if she will, but you sound like a keeper.
Linda Thompson – I'm a Dreamer – So much going on in this gorgeous cover tune, I'll let her tell about it. Spoiler – she won't be going anywhere.
Richard Shindell – You Stay Here – This song can probably speak for itself. My pick of the topic.
Offa Rex – To Make You Stay – If we weren't informed that this was a cover, this could have easily been taken for a Decemberists original. Beauty, poignancy, birds, and a bit of creepiness all in one.
Ian Anderson – The Secret Language of Birds – More birds and creepiness, with an unusual pick ip line that could work. Utterly delightful tune, but somehow can't help but be put in mind of the butterfly collector.
Bob Dylan - Lay Lady Lay – A small handful of Dylan noms and covers, but this was always going to be the one.
The Rolling Stones – Wild Horses – Never did I ever have any intention or expectation of listing this song. But if you can't be dragged away, I guess that means you must be staying.
Led Zeppelin – Thank You – Never did I ever have any intention or expectation of listing this song. But the if the earth falls apart and the sky falls apart, it seems that something still remains.
Gil Scott-Heron / Brian Jackson – Offerings – They went all hippie on us. Offerings accepted with much gratitude. The music does indeed remain.
