A fabulously smooth double LP 18-track return by the Baltimore duo of Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally of dreamy, serene electro-pop, with a suddenly broadened scope of psychedelia and folk rock, gradually and now fully released across four chapters. Chapter 1 was previewed on Song of the Day back in November. Each song is accompanied by a beautiful animation. The first chapter, opening with the title track, has Legrand’s characteristic breathy sheen and rippling synths on Pink Funeral. The second, opening with Runaway, builds with gentle beats, harpsichord-style synths and vocal effects. Chapter 3 is the band’s biggest departure from the norm, decorated with acoustic guitar elements on , with Masquerade has a gothic feel, while Chapter 4, opening with finale returns to more familiar sounds with the woozy, bending lush final number Modern Love Stories with epic-feel orchestral elements that build to powerful climax and even some acoustic guitar, reminiscent of some lost Pink Floyd album. The album is an overall, an immersive experience, playing subtly with the established style, but seamlessly adding tiny variants. A relaxing, ethereal musical experience, and one of their finest to date. Out on Bella Union.
