A gorgeously soulful, gentle, intimate and indeed heavenly third solo album by the London singer-songwriter familiar to fans of Sault and her longtime collaborator and once again here producer – Inflo (Dean Josiah Cover). Very much in line with her influences, Erykah Badu and Jill Scott, Sol’s voice floats and meanders beautifully across every syllable on this stripped back instrumental backing. Listening is like immersing yourself in a cande-lit warm bath. Highlights include the intimate close-mic love song title track, opener Self, the birdsong inflected Golden Child (Jealous), and the wonderfully soaring and optimist Airplane over a minimal drum beat and acoustic guitar (“And you will find your power / Little bird, wait / And you will fly again, no fear / High like an airplane”). But every track oozes quality and sheer class. Out on Forever Living Originals.
