After the heartbreak of the dark 2018 Ruins album, Swedish sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg return to uplifting, sweet harmony country-folk-pop, sometimes reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac, and expressed in the title by the idea of a free-spirited elegant horse. That comes across of course in the title track, and alongside all with the polished orchestration and symbiotic harmonies, there are many other gems on album that was recorded over a luxuriant three months in Stockholm. Particular highlights include the excellent Angel, the unconditional love in the powerful A Feeling That Never Came, and Out of My Head. First Aid Kit’s music hits all the right buttons across folk, country and pop, somehow hitting the mainstream without feeling like a sellout, and there’s a genuine joy to their music in the same way as Fleet Foxes, no matter what the subject matter or emotions within, always carried by solid gold songwriting. Other standouts include Fallen Snow (“I’ll keep coming back to you”), Ready To Run and the 70s Dylanesque Turning Onto You. Out on Columbia.
