Originally commissioned for a multi-sensory Dreamachine installation, the British electronic producer’s latest is a continuous 8-part immersive experience, slow to build, and at times challenging, but in an appropriately dark, recumbent setting, rewarding. In world of increasing distraction and short attention span, this is all about being present in the moment. Parts 1-3 - Altar, Palace/Illusion and Transcend/Lament are all about the build, but transformation comes into the middle sections, particularly 5 - Evocation. Highly subjective as an experience, it’s certainly more interesting than much of the ambient wallpaper that can be found online, and is more in the Tangerine Machine/Eno mould. Needs time and space to full appreciate. Out on Domino.
