Exquisite, slow, elegant jazz and soul in this beautiful debut by singer Marley Munroe, who has smoky power and control reminiscent of Nina Simone, in an 11-track album including seven covers, including, upright bass and Miles Davis’s pianist Deron Johnson. Monroe gives a more than worthy rendition of numbers that evoke the classic American songbook, including original tracks written by her and producer Chris Seefried, Fix It, and Five Feet Tall. Standouts also include a rendition of Nina Simone's Blackbird, Nobody’s Sweetheart, Collage (The James Gang), It’s Not That Easy (Reuben Bell), It’ll Never Happen Again (Tim Hardin), and Wanted Dead or Alive, a rare groove classic recorded by funk/gospel collective Voices of East Harlem in 1973 and co-produced by Curtis Mayfield. Timeless. Out on Foundation Music Productions.
