Slow, measured, pared-back and beautiful, this creative concoction of cosmic country and folk is a gorgeous gem by the Glasgow-based Canadian artist. An immediate highlight is the exquisite Pass Back Through, a former Song of the Day here, and based on the cyclical nature of suffering, endurance and survival, shown by the darkly humorous video wherein a symbolic moon figure makes Leif pass through a golden ring again and again. But check out also the country-ish Gentle Moon, the lovely floating feeling of No Birds, the oddball vocal harmonies on Brightest Part Of The Room, the shimmering guitars on Fish Walk, or Synesthetics, which gentle clip-clops along with irresistible loveliness. Like a walk in the woods, filled with natural wonders, something to very much enjoy for those who also like Rozi Plain. Out on Lost Map Records.
