Best Girl Athlete – Best Girl Athlete
Aberdeen's Katie Buchan has had a busy year what with a slot supporting Richard Hawley and starting her university education. Her second album with Best Girl Athlete has a more expansive pop sound with some Barry-esque string arrangements. Best of all is the killer pop-stomp of In Your Head.
Best Girl Athlete – In Your Head
Courtney Barnett & Kurt Vile – Lotta Sea Lice
While Kurt has been churning out the albums it's a little while since we've heard from Courtney and this album is a welcome return. Not sure we'll be hearing Barnett's more garage-y stuff but the lazy slacker charm of this collaboration is irresistible!
Courtney Barnett & Kurt Vile – Over Everything
Four Tet – New Energy
Kieron Hebden has dispensed with a record label and has self-released the first thousand copies of his new album (long sold-out) with the proceeds going to Oxfam. The album sees a circuitous return to the dancefloor sound with a nod along the way to albums like Rounds and Pink.
Four Tet - SW9 9SL
St Vincent – Masseduction
Welcome return from Annie Clark who, after her own unwanted brush with fame and objectification, has reaffirmed her control with a terrific album and a fetishistic exploration of body politics. Cracking collection of collaborators too including Jenny Lewis and Kamasi Washington.
St Vincent – Los Ageless
Beck - Colours
He's been teasing us with terrific pop singles for way too long so it's a relief to finally see the release of his 13th album, a vibrant and anarchic collection which has already compared to Odelay!
Beck - Dear Life
This week's selection is by Michael Moloney, aka llamalpaca from the vinyl-only record and design store, Chameleon, with additions by The Landlord.
