The post-punkers' new album is produced by Dennis Bovell and Hank Shocklee and is their "stand against manufactured hate, a hypersonic journey into a dystopian future full of alien encounters and sci-fi lullabies". Make of that what you will!

Taking inspiration from an esoteric blend – Radiophonic Workshop, Comus, the scores of Bernard Herrmann, John Barry and Ennio Morricone Fairport, COUM, Acid House, Incredible String Band, The Langley Schools Project and The Wicker Man soundtrack, Toy return with with their snappy take on garage-y psyche with a pleasing dollop of shoegaze.

Anton Newcombe has been a busy boy of late and drops his 15th BJM album this week. He and the band are joined by  Emil Nikolaisen from the Norwegian band Serena-Maneesh plus vocal contributions from frequent collaborator Tess Parks and Katy Lane.

Weyes Blood - Front Row Seat To Earth

I've been berating myself all week for missing this off last week's list: Natalie Mering aka Weyes Blood follows up the excellent The Innocents with an equally impressive and singular album rooted in folk and psychedelic pop, all powered along by that extraordinary voice (sort of Karen Carpenter with darker intent). Hopefully this will break her to a bigger audience and dig that decidedly odd video!

The No Sorrows – The No Sorrows

And finally, with the aim to big up vinyl-only releases and to give exposure to lesser-known bands, this eponymous LP on King Bill Records comes from a band described as "a mix of early Fairport Convention and Dinosaur Jr in full flight". Recorded in France, in the Limousin valley, by a band from London, frontman Tom Huddleston says: "It was like Exile on Main Street without the drugs. Or the hookers. Or the piles of money." The result? Well it certainly sounds like it's permanently the hazy, sun-kissed hot summer of 1972. Listen here or below. Whitehaven is the opening track:

Psych-folk six-piece The No Sorrows combine soaring harmonies, melodic violin, shoegazey feedback and a powerhouse rhythm section to produce a sound that has been compared to '60s Brit-folk icons Trees and Fairport Convention, with a droney dash of Neil Young. They release their first, self-titled LP on vinyl only this year, drop us a line if you'd like a copy!
