Nadine Shah – Holiday Destination
Third album from the velvet-voiced Tyneside singer with a Pakistani-Norwegian heritage is gritty, emotional work, tackling many pressing political issues of the day, from immigration to Brexit, and includes inspiration from the work of her brother who produced a documentary for Al Jazeera TV on a refugee camp in Gaziantep between the Turkish and Syrian border.

Cabbage – The Extended Play Of Cruelty
New 10-inch from the self-styled purveyors of "apocalyptic Sprautrock". Both barrels are aimed and successfully discharged at privatised rail companies.

Martin Hannett - Homage To Delia Derbyshire
The legendary Mancunian producer Hannett was fascinated as a child with Dr Who and consequently the music of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. His pioneering production skills using synths and electronic echo were influenced by Delia Derbyshire's work and these 18 tracks are a fine tribute to her. Part 12 sounds like a slow version of the Human League's Hard Times.

Susanne Sundfør - Music For People In Trouble
Fresh from the Scott Walker tribute at the Royal Albert Hall, the Norwegian singer-songwriter and producer is back with an album inspired by a journey Susanne made in a bid to re-connect, travelling across continents to contrary environments and politically contrasting worlds from North Korea to the Amazon jungle. Guests include John Grant.

Iron & Wine - Beast Epic
The sound of Beast Epic harks back to Sam Beam's previous work, recording everything live and doing minimal overdubbing. Never has the exploration of mortality and fallibility sounded so comfortable.
Iron & Wine - Call It Dreaming
Queens Of The Stone Age - Villains
Josh Homme's collaboration with producer Mark Ronson may have raised a few eyebrows and suggested a change of direction but the decision has paid off in spades. The album is laden with hooks and pop sensibility, shifting from the glam-tinged ZZ Top sounding of No One Knows to the catchy riffing of The Evil Has Landed as Ronson coaxes the band to a tempo which is nigh-on danceable.
