Yo La Tengo – There's A Riot Going On
This first album in almost five years from the New Jersey indie group is the result of much work in the rehearsal studio, recorded by the band themselves with no rehearsals beforehand – they simply turned on the recorder and let things coalesce.

Cut Chemist – Die Cut
This second album from the DJ Shadow collaborator has a revolving door of high-profile contributions from drum superstar Deantoni Parks (The Mars Volta), rap legend Biz Markie, actress Erika Christensen, tune-yards, Farmer Dave Scher, and Dexter Story.

Creep Show – Mr Dynamite
Creep Show brings together John Grant with the dark funk of analogue electronic band Wrangler (Stephen Mallinder/Phil Winter/Benge). There's drum machines and synthesizers aplenty but the real joy is the interplay between the two vocalists, John Grant and ex-Cabaret Voltaire frontman Stephen Mallinder, who switch between oblique wordplay to sinister humour.
Creep Show - Modern Parenting
The Decemberists – I'll Be Your Girl
The Decemberists have set themselves the challenge of exploring a new sound on their eighth studio album with influences such as Roxy Music and New Order. It's produced by John Congleton who has previously worked with St Vincent and Lana Del Rey.

Thundercat, OG Ron C & The Chopstars – Drank
"Chopped not slopped" remixes can be an acquired taste but when the source material is as good as Thundercat's breakthrough Drunk album it is surely worth a listen. The episodic nature of the album lends itself to being slowed down and chopped up which just enhances its jazziness, although hearing a two-third speed Michael MacDonald will not be everybody's cup of tea.
