Dutch Uncles – Big Balloon
The Marple band’s fifth album takes musical inspiration from Kate Bush’s The Red Shoes, Low-era David Bowie, some slightly less fashionable records belonging to their parents and Eastern European techno. A valiant and innovative mix.
Dutch Uncles – Big Balloon
Ryan Adams – Prisoner
A break-up album – not ideal for Valentine’s Day, but that’s love for you. This may tone down the garage rock and focus on a more reflective mood at which Adams also excels. The lead track To Be Without You has been a bit of an earworm of late.
Ryan Adams - To Be Without You
Jens Lekman – Life Will See You Now
Amusingly titled fourth album from the Swedish indie pop artist, who again presents a dry, wistful exposition of tragic and other events and feelings with wit, irony and often upbeat tunes. Think of Belle & Sebastian, Jonathan Richmond and Magnetic Fields.
Jens Lekman – Evening Prayer
Hanni El Khatib – Savage Times
The eclectic skateboarding post-punk American multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter of Palestinian and Filipino parents (that’s some combination) returns with his third full album, the product of five previous EPs released into one physical release. What is it? Indie? Punk? Hip hop? Industrial? Hard to decide. But it’s definitely unusual and inventive.
Hanni El Khatib - Gonna Die Alone
The Damned – Damned Damned Damned
Featuring fully remastered audio and new sleevenotes comprehensively researched and written by legendary punk writer John Ingham, these cover the story of the album and the period in which it was written and recorded, the impact upon release and its legacy 40 years later.
The Damned – Neat Neat Neat
