Moonlandingz – Interplanetary Class Classics
They began as a fictional band in a fictional town featured on the Eccentronic Research Council’s 2015 concept album Johnny Rocket, Narcissist And Music Machine… I’m Your Biggest Fan, with actress Maxine Peak often at large, and are fronted by Fat White Family’s Lias Saoudi and Saul Adamczewski. They recorded the album with Sean Lennon at his studio in upstate New York. Also on the record: Randy Jones the Cowboy from The Village People, Rebecca Taylor from Slow Club, drummer Ross Orton, bassist Mairead O’Connor, Phil Oakey and Yoko Ono, who sings and yowls on epic closer This Cities Undone. Otherworldly, and completely anarchic if you catch them live.
The Moonlandingz ft Rebecca Lucy Taylor - The Strangle Of Anna
Jesus & Mary Chain – Damage & Joy
It's almost 19 years since the release of their previous Munki album, and from first hearing the Reid brothers' usual insouciant spikiness is to the fore. Independent record stores have an orange vinyl version.
Jesus & Mary Chain – Always Sad
Johnny Flynn – Sillion
Flynn’s commitments to acting, composing (he did the soundtrack for the Detectorists), and his young family have made the development of his new album an episodic one. Expect an earthy sound with reflections on his experience of becoming a father.
Johnny Flynn - Raising The Dead
PINS – Bad Things EP
The brand new 5 track EP from the Manchester women featuring the fabulous collaboration track with Iggy Pop, Aggrophobe, along with a cover of Joy Division's Dead Souls. Interesting that they have a release in the same week as Jesus & Mary Chain, clearly one of their influences.
PINS - Aggrophobe (feat. Iggy Pop)
This week's selection is by Michael Moloney, aka llamalpaca from the vinyl-only record and design store, Chameleon, with additions by The Landlord.
