A joyously nostalgic, beautiful and uplifting 11th album by the London cult electronica and dance duo of Andy Turner and Ed Handley based on a theme of a fictitious festival, Feorm, “an intergalactic shindig held on the planet Falorx”. The album is filled with mesmeric moments, sometimes feeling like parallel Tomorrow’s World or Vangelis-type theme tune, but overall a soundtrack to a fabulous space movie. It’s a much brighter, more upbeat release than 2019’s Polymer album. From the shimmering rhythms and flute sounds on opener Perspex, the beautiful melodies and bounce of Mondenet, and Wondergan, the spidery sci-fi-style string twangs of C.A., the buoyant beats sprightly tunes of Nightcrawler, to the wide future cityscape sounds of Cwtchr and the intricate textures of Return to Return, like all classic electronica, this feels like both the future and the past. Wondrously refreshing and yet also magically familiar. Out on Warp Records.
