A sublime third solo LP by the singer and La Luz co-founder, a beautiful selection of Californian-style folk, named after a native evergreen tree with medicinal properties, and awash with pristine acoustic guitar and her mesmeric voice. The interspersing shorter interim numbers also add to the album’s dream-like quality. Cleveland has always had plenty of coverage on this site, but is now finally getting the acclaim she deserves in more mainstream media. Like some surreal journey through a Laurel Canyon landscape, the many highlights include opener A Ghost, the wonderful Faces In The Firelight, Sheriff of the Salton Sea (after a saltwater lake), Mystic Mine, Quick Winter Sun, Bonanza Freeze, the more country-style Babe, the jittery rhythm of the ghostly Evil Eye, and celebration of spring in the closing track, Walking Through Morning Dew. An exquisite folk-psych tapestry. Out on Hardly Art.
