Effortlessly cool, sometimes oddball and infectiously laid-back funk, soul and 70s-style pop in this second LP by the guitarist, singer and producer from Compton, California, with some distinct echoes of Stevie Wonder and Prince. That comparison particularly comes out for the latter in his falsetto and the casual mention of sexual intimacy, but there are also interesting musical twists that mark out Lacy has an original talent, especially, after the spitefully jokey meta-love song opener Static, the next two tracks, Helmet, with an infused Latin element, and a lazy more Stevie Wonder funk delivery on Mercury. Other standouts include the intoxicating soul groove of Sunshine with guest vocalist Fousheé, Bad Habit, and the tender, lightly squelchy funk of closing track Give You The World. It just oozes out of him. Out on RCA Records.
