Deliciously enjoyable new album by the New Zealand indie quartet, with strong melodies, lyrics that carefully balance the melancholy, thoughtful and feelgood, not least the title track which ponders the irony of knowing in great detail someone you are no longer in a relationship with. Other standouts include Knees Deep, inspired by singer and guitarist Liz Stokes’ self-confessed tendency to dither before jumping into the literal or metaphorical water, and to overthink things (“I wish I was brave enough to dive in”) with a resultant amusing video showing each of the band in turn leaving rehearsals to do a bungee jump, Stokes making the last leap last. I Want To Listen is decorated with a wistful melody, the rockier Silence Is Golden, Change In The Weather has a clever, syncopated rhythm, When You Know You Know has a shimmering shuffle, and closing track 2am builds with vivid sense of melancholic nostalgia with haunting guitars, thrumming bass and crashing drums. An impressive end to a strong release. Out on Carpark Records and Ivy League.
