This fourth, sprawling, ambitious, cinematic, genre-spanning double album by the Halifax trio of singer/bassist Esmé Hand-Halford and co is an enthralling, constantly morphing mix of psychedelia, prog, jazz, funk, R&B, indie, space pop, electronica, house and disco. Standout track is the 8-minute Beam/s, previously highlighted here as a Song of the Day, but among many other highlights are Airtight, Honfleur Remembered, the Blur-like Darkened Corner, the dance-indie fusion of The Room, and the expansive build of Television. Full of surprises, the closing track, Stones, is a slow acoustic guitar, spoken narrative number. Experimental and full of strange turns, but there’s no doubting the creative, unbridled, bold talents of Esmé alongside drummer Sid and guitarist Henry. Out on Heavenly Recordings.
