Seeking some existential escape? Then immerse yourself in this new, wonderfully otherworldly song by the Peruvian London-based artist whose work has echoes of Syd Barrett, from “a psychedelic bubble bath” EP. The acoustic guitar, reverse effects, gentle piano, and offbeat talk-singing style has a droll, black humour, and the moon in question may well be about the celestial body orbiting Earth, but equally relates to Attawalpa’s (aka Luis Felber’s) first recording studio, where the song was written, Moon Studios, situated in an 18th-century crypt opposite Tower Bridge in London. It’s a yearning for a escape to creativity, and away from social pressures. Attawalpa’s name is inspired by Atahualpa, the last Inca king before the Spanish invaded in the 1500s, to signify a spirit of independence. The EP, Spells, is out in early April. More of his work be heard here.
I’ve got voices
In my head
And they won’t shut up
All the gossip
So frustrating
But I’m still listening
I wanna go to the moon
How do I get there?
Give me substance
Am I stuck in a cycle?
Nostalgia
Losing touch but I’m still listening
I wanna go to the moon
How do I get there?
I’ve got voices
In my head but I’m still listening
I wanna go
I wanna go
I wanna go to the moon
Cos I’ll never ever come back again
Seeing how it feels
Digging in my heels
I’ll never ever come back again
Seeing how it feels
Sinking
Sinking in the sand dunes
