Is it any wonder I lay awake all night.
Is it any wonder on a Sunday soon
I see the light …
Like a blind man driving at the wheel
Like a hound dog scratching out a meal
You and I both know it
You belong
Come on over, turn me on.
For this Sunday’s choice, we go slow and sexy, and who better than to come over to, and what better a pairing than Glasgow’s Campbell and Washington’s Lanegan, whose respective high and deep voices combine with a tender, breathy ferocity and to bring a simmering passion to any song. This one, penned by Campbell, the former cello, keyboard and percussionist from Belle & Sebastian, with Lanegan, music’s hard man collaborator with everyone from Kurt Cobain to Queens of the Stone Age to Massive Attack, comes from their second collaboration album, Sunday At Devil Dirt in 2008. It begins and builds slowly, and uses a powerful descending baseline before building to an orchestral and blues guitar climax. The whole effect is to express an inescapable attraction and desire, and it certainly works. Now take a cold shower.
