Music is revolving in seismic circles this week on Song of the Day, as after yesterday's Planetarium featuring Sufjan Stevens and friends, we turn to a sample of three songs from a new double album of classical electronica by the Detroit techno DJ and producer and composer. A follow-up to 2016's Free Fall Galaxy, with similarly celestial themes, the work was arranged for orchestra by Sylvain Griotto and was recorded in Chicago. The three samples offer a sense of the power and otherworldly scope of the work, very much a departure from Mills' DJ career, and it is clearly inspired by the famous suite by Gustav Holst. The full work has also been performed at London's Barbican and other concert halls around the world.
