After Véronique Sanson, more mid-70s soul-funk full-orchestral music, this time from the influential British artist, with a pair of classic songs that fully combine fat bass and rhythmic violin and brass sections. The Vulture cuts a classic tale, told in the first person, of highly flawed, ruthless character who preys on women. The moody love song, I Got The …, also from the 1975 album Remember My Song, includes the recently departed Chas Hodges on backing vocals, and that distinctive syncopated passage in the middle sampled by Eminem on My Name Is.
Claudius Afolabi "Labi" Siffre, who high soulful voice, tinged with an appealing, distinctive, emotional fragility, also played jazz guitar, wrote books of poetry, essays and a TV and stage play, Deathwrite.
They call me the vulture cause that's my name
I fly high, around the town, looking for game
Any girl who's lost her man i'm by her side, as fast as i can
And i tell her things that she wants to hear, i'm an evil man
Oh oh oh I'm a vulture
I say, now that is over what you gonna do
I'm so sad that you're on your own
And your heart is a shelter
That man is gone and is gone for good
He's gone and he's never coming back
And the love that you had that was beautiful
But it's dead that is a fact
If you're looking for consolation you don't have to look no more
And i fold my wings around the girl i've made it for sure
Oh oh I'm a vulture
When i fly into town the work is around
The vulture's here you'd better tie your baby down
Take a girl for a drink, take her out for something to eat
Leave her just for a little while, take a nature retreat
By the time, i've made it back, i've got a name, address and a date
And you can see by the far away look in her eyes
That you've made it there much too late
Oh oh oh I'm a vulture
Vulture's got class, vulture's got style
Vulture can heal her, with a look or a smile
Vulture's in town, so you'd better beware
Married or single, i just don't care
Oh oh oh I'm a vulture
[Verse 1]
I got the blues but I don't mind
All I have to do is get to you
And then I feel just fine
I'm on a downer, but not all the way
When I'm feelin' low you do your thing just so
And then I feel OK
You're so good, the way you give
So good, you're the best there is
[Verse 2]
I got the blues, got it oh so bad
When I think of me its hard to be
A person quite so sad
You got the answer and it makes me glad
When I'm feelin' small you give me rock n' roll
And then I'm feelin' bad
Your so good, the way you give
So good, you're the best there is
[Verse 3]
Just a lonely soul
Slowly dyin'
I was smilin' hard
But I was lyin'
Then you sailed along
With you're sweet dream
When you stole my heart
I was with it
Mornin' come, sun don't shine
I'll get by without you
I was lost, but now I'm found
Tell me love it was you
Mornin' come, sun don't shine
I'll get by without you
I was lost, but now I'm found
Tell me love it was you
Just a lonely soul (Mornin' come, sun don't shine)
Slowly dyin' (I'll get by without you)
I was smilin' hard (I was lost, but now I'm found)
But I was lyin' (Tell me love it was you)
Then you sailed along (Mornin' come, sun don't shine)
With you're sweet dream (I'll get by without you)
When you stole my heart (I was lost, but now I'm found)
I was with it (Tell me love it was you).
