Going to see the river man
Going to tell him all I can
About the ban
On feeling free.
If he tells me all he knows
About the way his river flows
I don't suppose
It's meant for me.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written, and a favourite of singer-songwriters such as Paul Weller, it follows yesterdays new Gareth Dickson track as a major influence. Coming from Drake's debut album of 1969, Five Leaves Left, it may have been inspired by a Wordsworth poem, The Idiot Boy (referencing Betty Foy) the singer studied at Cambridge. What's also unusual about this track is that it is one of the few Drake used standard guitar tuning, and a 5/4 time signature.
Reclusive and suffering with major depression, Drake never achieved commercial success or acclaim before his death in 1974, but this is the peak of his legacy, and a timeless one at that.
