Transitioning recently between Africa and Cuba, today's choice is a fusion of the two – the classic sound but played by the Senegalese singer and sax player from his 1995 album, Ke Jaraxam, which came out on cassette, then achieved wider CD and vinyl release in 2002. Salsa itself is a fusion that first began to appear in 1960s New York as an Afro-Cuban mix of Cuban son montuno, guaracha, cha cha chá, mambo, and bolero, and the Puerto Rican bomba and plena. Amadou Pape Fall was born in Dakar in 1947, playing in various bands, including, L’Africain Jazz, with his friend Laba Soce in the Super International Band, Super Cap Vert Band of Rufisque, as a singer with and later in the 1990s he formed African Salsa, the band and also the name of this song, a tribute to the genre and the mix of two closely linked cultures. This song has a cheeky, cheesy keyboard element to it, bringing a crisp, sugary pop sprinkle.
