The London band of Willgoose, Wrigglesworth and co who specialise in songs sampling archive footage return with a stirring, nostalgic number about the early days of radio broadcasting, in a version played with the BBC Symphony Orchestra – and the title track of their forthcoming new live album. It is a remix of a live recording at made in August 2022 at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Out on Test Card Recordings.
How can we escape from this new noise that is adding to the distractions of an already complex world?
Is it to be yet another by-product of man's inventive mind which will get beyond his control before he has learned its power?
Broadcasting is a means of enlarging the frontiers of human interest and consciousness
Of widening personal experience
Of shrinking the earth's surface
Accompanying and assisting a new stage in civilization
This wireless, one of thе great gifts of Providence to mankind
Is a trust of which wе are humble ministers
Our prayer is that nothing mean or cheap may lessen its value
And that all its messages may bring happiness and comfort to those who listen
