This hugely uplifting title track from the forthcoming eighth album by the New York band led by multi-instrumentalist Ahmed Gallab, is fabulously stylish, Sly Stone-inspired, gospel funk and soul with an energy that really flies. It features the powerful vocals of STOUT (aka Denise Renee). The lyrics are inspired by Alexander Pope’s work, An Essay on Criticism, particularly: “To err is human, to forgive divine.” The album is out on 5 April on City Slang. Let me tell you about me
My thoughts always keep me up
trails of books I thought would help rectify
only made me worse.
I don’t wanna be alone
and I know that y’all feel me
when I settle for less than what I’m worth
I keep feeling lost.
Let’s wake up
Take one breath
And listen for the sound
be in tune, follow your light
be yourself, free your mind
to err is human
to forgive divine.
What a time to be alive!
consistently paranoid
Reaching for these false prophets
to numb the pain…
got me in trouble again
Yet I still keep mistakin’ work for love
been down for so long
I keep getting on
same old story
no need to worry
We’re all that we got to hold on
We’re all that we got so be strong
Prevailing till the break of dawn
Because we belong!
Yes, mamma we made it!
Because we belong!
We’re all that we got so hold on
We’re all that we got to be strong
Persist till the day’s first yawn
Because we belong!
