Two beautifully delicate acoustic numbers by the New York-born, LA-based singer-songwriter Helen Ballentine who humorously names herself after a powerlifting move, but sounds more like Elliott Smith. The title track as well as the song dedicated to the English singer-songwriter and guitarist, come from her forthcoming EP, out on Secretly Canadian. More of her work can be also enjoyed and bought via Bandcamp.
How did I end up here with my old lines on your page?
Sometimes I wish I’d kept them safe
Far away from your gaze
And I wonder how you think you know who I am
I’m still lying on the floor
I’m right where I began
I don’t mind the rain
I bring myself back down again
And again
And again
Does it hurt to pull me out
While you watch me kick it in
And I wonder if I go back home
Can I hide away?
Or if I step into this storm
Is it warm?
Will I find my place?
Can I go back?
I wish you could see me start
I would you could see me start this storm
All day at the bookstore
Curled up in the same chair
I was lost In what we shared
On a train to Fleetwood
It began to rain
No one came
To get me
From the station
I walked home alone
With your song in my head
Finally understanding something In what you said
In the moment
How the rain smelled
And I know now
