After a short break Song of the Day returns with some brand new music. The Belgian trio of brothers David and Stephen Dewaele and Stefaan Van Leuven, aka 2manyDJs and various alternative names, have been around for 20 years, producing original material and official and unofficial remixes of for everyone from LCD Soundsystem to Sugababes, Robbie Williams to classic Beatles, but this time their new project, the recently released album From Deewee, named after their studio complex, is altogether different.
It comes from what is essentially a 48-minute live session album inspired by their 2016 show Transient Program For Drums and Machinery, featuring the original three members, plus Laima Leyton on keys, and three contrasting drummers Igor Cavalera (like Leyton also known for playing with Brazilian metal band Sepultura), Blake Davies (Bristol’s Turbowolf) and Victoria Smith (Ipso Facto). Making a powerful presence on stage the sound is of course heavy on rhythm and electronica, and vocals that perhaps echo 90s Underworld. But overall it is potent, original material, with a very strong bass line, and a video that contains an adolescent flavour of menace and anger that’s new and fresh.
