Gloriously uplifting, clever dance electro-pop by the band led by songwriter Ed Seed, inspired by his childhood in and recorded in Wales, where the natural environment co-exists with the less so, from farming, forestry, tourism, and military activity. Come With Me is the opening track from their latest album with the same running theme, Powys 1999 (released in November 2020), in which narratives explore personal upbringing and the potential untrustworthy memories that come with such reflection. Naturalise Me is also a typically fabulous track. Stats also released the much admired 2019 album Other People’s Lives in 2019. To enjoy more of their work visit their Bandcamp page. The rest of the album, released on Memphis Industries, can also be enjoyed below.
At the bottom of the barrel
In the gut of the whale
Up the charred peak
Or in the sopping vale
Lost in containers
Stacked along the quay
Are you lonely?
Come with me
(Come find your way)
(Come find your way)
'Cause I was raised on the side of this mountain
A thousand feet in the air
There were gamma rays in the granite walls
And jet planes cutting my hair
I seen a calf slip out in a bag of membranes
And get to its feet right away
Some kids are born knowing who they are
But I didn’t feel this way
Come with me
(Comе find your way)
(Come find your way)
Up here you can see for miles
Up here you could tell a vision
Up here you won’t see a soul
Up here you can make decisions
Up here you can see for miles
Up here you could tell a vision
Up here you won’t see a soul
Up here you can
Come with me
Come with me
(Come find your way)
From the summit of the mountain
(Come find your way)
To the bottom of the ocean
(Come find your way)
From the summit of the mountain
(Come find your way)
To the bottom of the sea
(Come find your way)
From the summit of the mountain
(Come find your way)
To the bottom of the ocean
(Come find your way)
From the summit of the mountain
(Come find your way)
To the bottom of the sea
Come with me
Won't you make me natural?
Naturalise me
I wish I was natural
Like the old country
So make me clear as the rivers and clean as the air
Give me roots like the trees, make me sing like the birds
Make me belong
Won't you make me clear as the rivers and clean as the air?
Give me roots like the trees, make me sing like the birds
Make me belong
Make me belong
Set me free, naturalise me
Set me free, naturalise me
Set me free, naturalise me
Set me free, naturalise me
'Cause I never had the bloodline
No, I was never clean
Sure, I can sing the right words
But I never know what they mean
So make me clear as the rivers and clean as the air
Give me roots like the trees, make me sing like the birds
Make me belong
Oh, won't you make me clear as the rivers and clean as the air?
Give me roots like the trees, make me sing like the birds
Make me belong
Set me free, naturalise me
Set me free, naturalise me …
Set me free (Set me free)
Set me free (Set me free) …
Set me free, naturalise me …
(There’s lightning coming) …
Set me free, naturalise me
