The Damon Albarn connection from yesterday chimes beautifully with another unusual, but brilliant collaboration headed up by the Specials, Fun Boy Three, The Colourfield, and Vegas frontman, Terry Hall, and Fun-Da-Mental’s Mushtaq. Needless to say the results are a unique combination of their many influences across 2003’s great album The Hour of Two Lights, from ska to hip-hop, dub, Asian, indie, gypsy, world and even a dash of Yiddish fiddle style music. The ghostly voices of Hall and Albarn float through it, in supremely slow, catchy rhythm that also features the melodica, violin, clarinet, accordion, oud, jaws harp, shehnai, dhol, vinyl scratching and other instruments, all of which is topped with a great, guttural delivery by Iraqi rapper Oujdi. This is a melting pot of styles at its very best, in what is a truly magnificent album.
