Time to start the week with classic characteristic contraction – a cynical song about human nature, but with a refreshing, upbeat style. The funk and soul eight-piece band from Melbourne have been producing great music since 2000 with a variety of members, and this is from their fourth album, 4, in 2010. Fronted by guitarist, producer and songwriter Lance Ferguson, much of their material has been instrumental, influenced by the likes James Brown, Grant Green and The Meters, but here is an example a great vocal performance by Lyrics Born, Kylie Auldist and Ferguson himself. Their music seems to evade being one particular genre, and here the balanced mix of guitar, drums and organ sound captures a psychedelic funk feel but with a new twist.
