A positive start to 2019, with a simple and gorgeous piano-based melody and love song from the pioneering British psych rock and pop band formed in St Albans in 1961 from their classic album of 1968, Odessey and Oracle. The band was fronted by Rod Argent and vocalist Colin Blunstone, but this track was written by Chris White, who penned around half of the album. The band are best known for their 1964 hit She’s Not There, but this one is delightfully optimistic, it has a timeless Beatle’s Sergeant Pepper feeling, mixing piano and orchestral brass, and contains a lovely shift-up key charge halfway through, to emphasise a change of perspective, a upbeat ray of hope from perhaps a previous year of darkness and difficulty. Let’s hope it also heralds something better for 2019.
The warmth of your love's like the warmth of the sun
And this will be our year, took a long time to come
Don't let go of my hand, now darkness has gone
And this will be our year, took a long time to come
And I won't forget
The way you held me up when I was down
And I won't forget the way you said
"Darling I love you, you gave me faith to go on"
Now we're there and we've only just begun
This will be our year, took a long time to come
The warmth of your smile - smile for me, little one
And this will be our year, took a long time to come
You don't have to worry, all your worried days are gone
And this will be our year, took a long time to come
And I won't forget
The way you held me up when I was down
And I won't forget the way you said
"Darling I love you, you gave me faith to go on"
Now we're there and we've only just begun
This will be our year, took a long time to come
And this will be our year, took a long time to come
