Majestic, slow-paced and emotionally powerful, an outstanding country-tinged dark folk dream-pop sixth LP by the American singer-songwriter inspired by liberation and grief – coming out to her aged parents in 2021 very shortly before their deaths. There’s a strong, warm sound throughout - helped by the co-production of Jonathan Wilson at his Fivestar Studios, in Topanga , California. There’s not a weak link in the entire album, but standouts include Through The Fires, Go Home, which has layers of Olsen’s voice underneath her main melody, crying out in pain, in a number that could also have an environmental grief, opener All The Good Times, the title track, and the particularly beautiful closing number Chasing the Sun, with orchestral layers and stripped back piano in a vocal performance that evokes driving to the mountains for a feeling of uplifting escape. Out on Jagjaguwar.
