Intimate, intelligent and gorgeously beautiful in voice and writing, the now Brighton-based folk singer-songwriter's LP is exquisitely performed with piano, guitar and gentle orchestration, reminiscent of Marika Hackman and Julia Jacklin. Tricky relationships to personal dilemmas, her songs are sparse, wonderfully weighted, poetic and perceptive, filled with keenly observed and clever detail from the pastoral to the abstract, such as when she sings are the very top of opener Co-op "I slip my hands into my pockets / Lean against the wall at a Blondie tribute concert", one of two songs, alongside Time Comes In Roses, previously highlighted on Song of the Day. There's not a weak link on the album but other standouts include All You Can Do, Silver Fir, How Do You Leave and Red Light Heaven. An artist handpicked by Lucy Rose for her label Real Kind Records. A gem from start to finish.
