.The 71-year-old veteran ZZ Top frontman returns with his third solo LP of catchy, drivin’ dirty blues rock with innuendo inspired by motors and femmes fatales, often sounding much like his original band, and better on the faster numbers. This is very much the case in the first four, revving into that familiar style and pace, from My Lucky Card, She’s On Fire, More-More-More and Shuffle, Step & Slide. Things get a little shakier on the slower blues Vagabond Man, and droop considerable on the cringeworthy Spanish Fly, but pick up again, particularly on Stackin’ Bones with guest vocals and slide guitar by those admirable sisters Larkin Poe or the Texas surf rock of West Coast Junkie. Nothing new here, but Gibbons remains in fine fettle, his engine still running gravelly rough and shiny smooth. Out on Concord Records.
