Thrumming, knotty, catchy, clever, crafty, stop-start indie post-punk with an occasional glimmer of glam-rock by the trio of former Ought members Tim Darcy (vocals, guitar) and Ben Stidworthy (bass) alongside Evan Cartwright (drums) with this debut album. We’ve previously highlighted the single Fulton Park on Song of the Day, and the album is titled after philosopher Alan Watts’ anthology of the same name. Innovative chord and pace changes abound in music that feels both downbeat and uplifting, with echoes of Pavement and The Strokes . Other standouts include So Excited, Degree, Blank Curtain, and Mint. Out on Fire Talk & Next Door.
