Beth Jeans Houghton returns, now under her label, continuing her more recent stripped back formula of great songwriting wrapped in fuzzbox guitar rock, this time with guests including Shirley Manson, Ezra Furman, and of Andy Bell of Ride. The Farting Suffragettes, and members of Girl Ray and Tunng also play along to a sound that’s far more like her last, Lung Bread for Daddy, than her first Du Blonde album or before that as The Hooves of Destiny. Overall there is a dirty , sleazy glam rock sound, reminiscent a little of Suzi Quatro, with standout tracks including the upbeat breakup song I’m Glad That We Broke Up, duetting with Ezra Furman backing, for whom she has also made videos, and previously featured on our New Songs section, belchy opener Pull the Plug, and supremely catchy but dark Medicated, where both women’s voices complement each other perfectly. Houghton’s vocal strength really comes to he fore on this album, overdubbing her deeper range with higher, creating a rich, sexy sound, a keeping the basic guitar and drums formula, Daffy Duck and Undertaker. A short, sharp 10-tracker, but full rockin’ out. Out on Daemon T.V.
