A 10th album of seven highly agile, experimental prog-jazz acoustic guitar-based numbers deftly performed by the Illinois-born, New York-based singer-songwriter and produced by Tortoise's John McEntire. Contributors also include Bill MacKay, Nancy Ives, Douglas Jenkins, Ryan Jewell, and Andrew Scott Young. With echoes of Joni Mitchell and some of early Genesis’s Steve Hackett, this is all very noodly, clever work, particularly on standout tracks Rang Dizzy and A Lenticular Slap, and opener Striking Down Your Big Premiere. Pond Scum Earth is a particularly experimental jazz guitar number backed by a low-key pulse-like beat and other subtleties, while Walker’s voice on Shiva With Dustpan has some of the tender touch and sound of Lambchop’s Kurt Wagner. Restlessly unpredictable and experimental, a little niche at times but also nicely intricate. Out on Husky Pants Records.
