Deliciously gentle, subtle, clever and beautifully original alternative folk by the Brighton-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist on a third LP that includes guests Kate Stables and Rozi Plain from This Is The Kit and Conor O’Brien from Villagers. Gatrill’s harp features regularly alongside a variety of acoustic strings, woodwind and other instruments, often decorated with subtle electronica across numbers that glint with exquisite lyrical detail and musical texture. The many standouts include former Song of the Day – Seed, with Stables, Plain and Rachael Dadd, and the serene Dance With Me, which explores themes of escapism, and echoes the album’s title. But there’s constant wonder and rippling beauty from first to last, from opener Seed then into Out of the Dark, Offshore Disco to the shimmering Adonis Blue, and among others, the inviting arpeggios of Moonmilk, all the way to the gently floating closing title track. Just wade in, and immerse your senses in this gorgeous, metaphorical, underwater, musical wonder-world. Out on Willkommen Records. See also Emma’s website.
