This fourth LP by the Honduran-American producer and singer-songwriter Lorely Rodriguez displays sparkling elasticity of sensual voice, playing with crisp, innovative electronica, R&B and rhythms across songs in English and Spanish. Sharp breaths, soaring voices and pingy keyboard songs decorate like melodic glitter on the opener title track, progressing further on Lorelei a kove songs of lust, caution, jealousy and red flags abound – “I smell it on the sheets/Found earrings I don’t wear.” The Spanish number Preciosa plays with the R&B with an oddball sparkle. Surprisingly the Rina Sawayama guest track, Kiss Me, as well as What’s Love (featuring Muna) are of the more conventional kind, but other more interesting standouts include the cleverly clicking, rhythmic, clubby tracks – What Kind of Girl Am I? Cura, or Femenine, as well as Sucia, or the woozily acoustic Baby Boy. A star turn, delicately and intricately different. Out on Major Arcana / Giant Music.
