Fleet Foxes – Crack-Up
Following the departure of Josh Tillman who has morphed into Father John Misty, frontman Robin Pecknold upped sticks to Columbia University putting Fleet Foxes on hold for six years. Now they're back with their third album (there's apparently a fourth on the way) which retains the trademark close harmonies but set against a more melancholic backdrop.
Fleet Foxes – Third of May / Ōdaigahara
Royal Blood – How Did We Get So Dark?
Their debut album was a huge hit and will be a hard act to follow. Early indications suggest that the Brighton duo have stuck to the template of powerful garage rock of claustrophobia and dark passion.
Royal Blood – Lights Out
Beth Ditto – Fake Sugar
There's no sign of Ditto missing the comfort of her former band (Gossip) – this is the sound of a confident woman striking out on her own – as she mixes driving blues, malt-shop pop, and swooning rock with a dollop of countrified soul.
Beth Ditto – Fire
Can – The Singles
This is the first time the krautrockers' singles have been presented together and shows the breadth of their influential career, from well loved tracks like Halleluwah, Vitamin C and I Want More to more obscure and sought after singles such as Silent Night and Turtles Have Short Legs.
Can – Vitamin C
David Bowie – Cracked Actor
David Bowie – Be My Wife
Two releases from the back catalogue this week - a live set from 1974 which was a transition from the Diamond Dogs set to the Philly Dogs tour.
