Now a three-piece, frontman Yannis Philippakis, drummer and Jack Bevan and rhythm guitarist Jimmy Smith return with a very danceable, funky and 80s indie pop-inspired single, produced by Dan Carey, and something of reset after their epic and acclaimed previous double releases of 2019, Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – Part 1 & 2. The loss of bass player Edwin Congreave, who is now pursuing an economics degree doesn’t seem to have lost them energy or body in sound, and Carey’s production skills, inspiring them to jam along to echoes of their work in the studio, has certainly given them a boost. It is hard not to feel energised and uplifted by these songs with slick, choppy guitars, clever interweaving of riffs and other sounds, and strong, positive melodies. Highlights include 2001, Wake Me Up, 2am, the opener and title track, and closing electro-pop number Wild Green. Out on Warner Bros.
