An intriguing, innovative new collaborative project by James Graham of The Twilight Sad and Aidan Moffat of Arab Strap culminates in this mysterious, genre-defying, experimental album of oddly poetic numbers. There are elements of jazz, classical, electronica, post-punk folk and more, and naturally there’s a strong Scottish flavour with both sharing vocal duties with tenderness and menace. War is a recurring theme on the excellent numbers Landfill and Killing This Time, while Face To Fire (After Nyman) tries to face variety of fears using elements of prog-rock and nods to classical elements of composer Michael Nyman. Other standouts include the thunderous drums of Let Them Eat Rot featuring AKG, and Moffat’s spoken word presence on the restlessly anxious Shores of Anhedonia. A truly original, absorbing release. Out on Rock Action Records.
