After 2022’s A New Kind of Love, the dynamic New York group return with wonderful cinematic concept album of funk, big band jazz and psychedelia featuring samples of Apollo mission transmissions, and songs from the perspective of a woman wondering when her astronaut partner will return. Full horns, fuzz guitars and fabulous, soulful vocals abound in a work variously inspired by Eddie Palmieri and Esquivel to The Lively Ones, Dusty Springfield, and War. All composed by Seth Applebaum, among the highlights are the songs: Again, with Romi Hanoch’s powerful vocals and great guest saxophonist Stuart Bogie; the fabulous funk, flutes, drums and guitars of Eyes of Love; the cool organ and surf style on Where To?; To The Moon!’s slow, moody atmospheric build into that swaggering full sound. And among many great stages of the journey, the surreal dreamy reverie of A Rare View, all the way to final tracks Totality and Infinite Dark. Even after all these years since the original landings, an inspirational subject, accompanied here with a fabulous, timeless soundtrack. Out on Colemine Records.
