Warm, engaging, easygoing alt-folk-country-pop by the Brooklyn band with their sixth album, here given a name as if a person, but also produced by acclaimed songwriter Daniel Tashian at the famous RCA Studio A, in Nashville. Recorded in the studio of all the country greats, including where Dolly Parton recorded Jolene, there is another-era feel to this release, glowing with a resonant analogue authenticity. These are taut, catchy creations, wistful, melancholy but like a heartfelt gentle embrace. Severeal have deliciously refreshing melodies such as Water Underground, Flowers, Haunted World or the funkier beat of Freeze Brain, and a sound reminiscent of The Byrds meets Crowded House meets The Coral. The final number, You Are Here, has a slower more epic, looser, improvised, expansive feel but overall this is beautifully crafted release. Out on Domino.
